Understanding Heel Pain
The Plantar Fascia is a thick band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot. If it becomes overloaded, it develops micro-tears near the heel, leading to chronic irritation and pain.
Common Symptom
- Intense pain under the heel with the first steps in the morning.
- Pain that improves with movement but returns after long periods of standing.
- Tenderness when pushing on the bottom of the heel.
The Ashbourne Approach
We focus on a “whole leg” approach. Foot mobility and strength are key factors including the calf muscles and even around the knee and hips. We’ll be looking at footwear and how your walk/run then it’s a case of addressing what we find, unloading with taping or orthotic/insoles advice, tailored loading programmes and, in stubborn and more longstanding cases, possibly shockwave.
