Understanding Heel Pain
The Plantar Fascia is a thick band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot. If it becomes overloaded, it develops micro-tears near the heel, leading to chronic irritation and pain.
Common Symptom
- Intense pain under the heel with the first steps in the morning.
- Pain that improves with movement but returns after long periods of standing.
- Tenderness when pushing on the bottom of the heel.
The Ashbourne Approach
We focus on a “whole leg” approach. Tight calf muscles are a primary cause of heel pain, so we use manual therapy to loosen them. We also utilise “high-load” strength training for the foot itself and can provide taping or orthotic advice to give the fascia the support it needs to heal.
