Understanding Nerve Roots
A nerve root is the start of a nerve as it exits the spinal cord. Irritation here usually causes symptoms in a “dermatome”—a specific patch of skin on the arm or leg.
Common Symptoms
- Reduced reflexes (tested with a reflex hammer).
- Pain that follows a very specific “line” down the limb.
- Significant muscle weakness.
The Ashbourne Approach
This requires a specialised approach. We monitor your neurological status closely to ensure things are improving. We use spinal unloading techniques and specific exercises designed to “centralise” the pain—moving it away from your limb and back toward the spine, which is a key sign of recovery.
