Understanding Spasms
A muscle spasm is an involuntary, forceful contraction of a muscle that won’t relax. It is often the body’s “splinting” mechanism—a protective reaction to an underlying joint or nerve injury.
Common Symptoms
- Hard, painful lumps in the muscle tissue.
- Sudden, sharp “cramping” sensations.
- Restricted movement in the back, neck, or limbs.
The Ashbourne Approach
The key to treating a spasm is finding out what the muscle is trying to protect. We use “hands-on” techniques like deep tissue release and trigger point therapy to break the pain-spasm-pain cycle. Once the muscle relaxes, we investigate postural habits or joint stiffness that may have triggered the reaction in the first place.
