Knee Cap / Patellar Pain (PFPS)

Knee Pain 1

Understanding Patellofemoral Pain

Often called “Runner’s Knee,” this is pain felt under or around the kneecap. It usually happens because the kneecap isn’t sliding smoothly in its groove, often due to muscle imbalances further up or down the leg.

Common Symptoms

  • Pain when going down stairs or sitting for long periods.
  • A “grinding” or “clicking” sound when squatting.
  • Mild swelling after activity.

The Ashbourne Approach

The knee is often the “victim” of the hip or the foot. We assess your gluteal strength and foot arch stability. By strengthening the hips and improving foot control, we change the “tracking” of the kneecap, allowing the cartilage behind it to settle down and stop being painful.
